Rodents

Rodents are the most common mammals in the world and Australia has more than 60 species of native rodents however it is the three introduced rodents that cause problems in urban areas.  Rodents contaminate our environment with their urine and droppings and by spreading disease.  They are known to be vectors of over fifty disease organisms.

Rodents look for a quiet place to nest in such as walls, roof spaces, sheds and piles of rubbish.  Rats and mice move around at night looking for food and water.  They are also more active in the colder months, sheltering from the cold and rain in the roof.  Pet food is also a major attraction for rodents.

Baiting and trapping are effective ways of rodent management.
